The Wellread Award Scheme is a national initiative organised by the PDST network. It aims to improve awareness around literacy and to encourage reading among secondary school students. More details can be found at https://www.pdst.ie/wellread The Grammar School was delighted to achieve this award for 2019-2022.

The next meeting of the Parents Book Club will be on Wednesday, 18th March 2020.

In St Patrick’s Cathedral Grammar School we are currently in our second year of this programme and have introduced several new ways to encourage reading and reintroduced old methods. The programme aims to include four main groups – students, parents, teachers and the wider community. Some of the ideas currently being implemented are listed below:

      • Book In Locker
      • Wellread Committee
      • Favourite book for teachers’ classroom doors
      • Favourite book – parents display
      • New lending library
      • Author talks and creative writing workshops in Kevin Street Library
      • Frequent trip and improved links with Kevin Street Library
      • Parents Book Club – details to follow
      • One School, One Book – ‘Moonrise’ by Sarah Crossan
      • Red Read wall
